Great Race USA Challenge Terms

Assistance
Real men & women do ask for directions and assistance. Feel free to ask strangers, workers or other teams for help. Anyone along the race is fair game to ask for assistance but remember you cannot have any friends along the race route to assist you.

Backpacks
Each participant in the race is encouraged to bring a backpack to the challenge. Things to include in your backpack might be water, snacks, change of clothes, sunglasses, hat, notepad, pen and an ID. You may not bring money, maps, a cell phone or any other electronic communication device. All backpacks will be inspected prior to the start of the race.

Clues
Clues are the sealed envelopes that each team will retrieve that will guide them throughout the race.

Cut-off Time
All challenge points will be closed 6 hours after the race begins. If your team has not completed the race after 6 hours you must go back to the original starting point and check in with race officials. Please do not leave the race without notifying race officials.

Detour
A detour is a choice between two tasks, each with its own pros & cons. Teams must successfully complete one of the tasks in order to receive their next clue. Some tasks may look harder, but teams that do them well may finish them quickly. Teams may change tasks part way through the task with no penalty but must complete one of those tasks to get their next clue

Pit Stop
Location that will allow teams to rest and mingle with the other teams in the competition. Teams will depart from the Pit Stops according to arrival times.

Race Dollars
Money given to teams at the beginning of each leg (when required) to accommodate the completion of the challenge. If a team runs out of money they may need to beg for additional dollars. Teams cannot bring any of their own money.

Results
To be ranked according to their arrival at the finish line.

Roadblock
A Roadblock is a task that only member of the team may perform.

Time Penalty
A time penalty given to a team that violates any rules of the race. Major violation of race rules could result in removal from the race or elimination from the standings.

Travel
Teams will primarily use their own cars for transportation between the challenge points. Other forms of transportation may be required such as public transportation, and transportation provided by the race. Teams may never split up and take separate transportation.

Yield
When a yield sign is found at a checkpoint, teams have the opportunity to stop a team behind them from racing for a predetermined amount of time. Teams must place a picture of the team they wish to yield on the yield sign. When yielded team arrives they must wait the specified amount of time and wait for a race official to release them to continue the race.
